What’s your favorite thing about the city?

Phu Tho is a busy little town but with a relaxed lifestyle. My favorite thing about the town is that most things are in walking distance, you may even have to stop for some cattle along the way.

The people are friendly and always happy to see you or lend a helping hand.

Less pollution with beautiful natural sites as the Red River is close by with multiple lakes to visit.

How busy is the city and how the quality of life?

The main street in Phu Tho (the one we walk to work everyday) is always a hive of activity. Many shops, cafe's and hotels. If you head away from the busy road you can quickly find yourself in peaceful rice paddies and farm lands. Its a nice combination to have that boasts a good quality of life.

Where is good to eat and drink?

There are many street food stalls, restaurants and even a Vincom Plaza close by. Vietnamese food cheap and if you feeling a bit homesick Jolly Bee's or Pizza company has your back

Any nice cafes around? What’s the nightlife like?

We have found such unique Cafe's all around town and love frequenting them in our free time. Personal favorites:

  • Titanic Cafe -  Overlooking a lake and live music sometimes.
  • Kim's Coffee - Coconut coffee to die for!
  • New419 - Hipster trendy hangout with recording studio.
  • Lovie Home - Vintage atmosphere with great Vietnamese food.
  • Kaffine - Great coffee with acoustic nights.

What do you like to do and where do you go in your free time?

I enjoy going for a run in the farm lands or visiting a cafe to drink GREAT coffee, read a book or do admin work. Sometimes I visit Vincom Cinema for a movie and ice cream or even visit the 5 star Muang Thang Hotel for a swim in their pool.

Read about other cities

Are there any places that is a must see, any major tourist attractions?

Hung King Temple is a must see as it is rich in Vietnamese history and culture. There are 3 temples and they are all a good hike so prepare to break a sweat, but the views are worth it.

Van Lang Park surrounds a lake and has an outside gym with beautiful sculptures too see.

Many streets markets with fresh food and cheap clothes are always fun to get stuck into.

Where is the center located in the city?

The center is located on the busy main road, located in 'Happy Land'. Its easy to see and I walk to work every day. It's super central, close to everything and as the name states, its a happy land.

What is it like driving in your town / city?

The main road can get quite busy but its nothing like Hanoi or bigger cities. Very few accidents. Scooters are the main mode of transport but taxis are always readily available.

               What’s your center like?

Our center is still relatively new so everything is in top condition, clean, fresh and fun. Staff are helpful and friendly and the students are said to be a lot more calm than big city kids - haha

What’s the Vietnamese population like; do you have any Vietnamese friends, ever hang out with them or socialize?

Yes, I find the Vietnamese the most friendly nation. We have attended weddings and just last week I visited a Vietnamese colleagues house and we explored her farm, visited a market, cooked Nem and watched TV.

Our neighbors always have a smile and a wave as communication is limited as well as students even inviting us to their homes to meet their families and enjoy a traditional dinner.

Tell us anything you like about living in a small town.

Phu Tho may not seem like much when you initially get here but it slowly creeps up on you. You will find hidden gems and get to know all your favorite spots in no time. I now love the relaxed and beautiful environment Phu Tho has to offer and knowing that Hanoi is less than 2 hours away as well as Sapa only 4 hours away is also comforting.

Tell us anything you like about life in the small town.

Quiet and not as much pollution. Everything is close by such as shopping centers and markets. Shakira & Caley
